Smart glass — also called switchable glass or privacy glass — is glass that changes from transparent to opaque (or frosted) at the flip of a switch, a remote control, or automatically. The most common technology used in commercial and residential applications is PDLC film (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal).
PDLC film can be applied to existing glass surfaces or integrated into new glass installations. When power is applied, the liquid crystals align and the glass becomes clear. When power is off, the crystals scatter and the glass appears frosted.
The most common applications we see in Orlando are: office conference rooms (instant privacy for meetings), medical and dental offices (HIPAA-sensitive privacy), residential master bathrooms (eliminates the need for window treatments), storefronts (display window privacy after hours), and glass partitions (flexible privacy in open-plan offices).
Smart glass and PDLC film installations are a premium product. Costs depend on the area to be covered and whether you're applying film to existing glass or specifying new glass. The technology has become significantly more accessible in recent years.
For most residential and small commercial applications, PDLC film applied to existing glass is the most cost-effective approach. We can provide a detailed estimate based on your specific project.
Smart glass is an excellent investment for spaces where you need flexible privacy on demand — and where you want to avoid traditional window treatments like blinds or curtains. It's particularly popular in medical offices, conference rooms, and master bathrooms.
